Medicaid and SCHIP for the uninsured
Healthcare Leadership Council officials proposed Medicaid and SCHIP (State Children Health Insurance Plan) funds for uninsured residents in the United States. Medicaid and SCHIP fund would allow the uninsured to buy private coverage through their employers. This was a part of a larger health care reform plan that includes restructuring insurance payment to reward positive outcomes instead of fee-per-procedure. It aims to overhaul the flawed medical liability system and defensive medicine. HLC officials comments, “It is critical that Congress and the administration invest significant funds and establish national standards to encourage the implementation of health information technology as well as provide financing mechanisms to help health care providers use the technology in their medical practices.”
