Can public healthcare cope with the current crisis?

17 February, 2009 (15:46) | News | By: editor

With more and more Americans losing their jobs and the their company sponsored healthcare benefits, many, especially those with chronic conditions, are looking to the State’s healthcare plan to address their healthcare needs while they are looking for new work.

However, some have expressed fears that the State’s public healthcare plan will not be able to meet all the needs of these unemployed people, simply due to their sheer numbers – as the funds might not be sufficient to support everyone.

With this in mind, US President Barack Obama has passed a bill that allows for additional funds to be channeled into the government’s healthcare aid, allowing for more people to become covered temporarily. While nothing is definite at the moment, many are hoping that the plan will stand through it’s various birth pains and work for the benefit of everyone in the long run.
